Purpose
The purpose of the installation artifacts is to enable someone to install the product.
Enclosed Documents and Artifacts
- Installation scripts, setup files, and so on.
- Installation instructions
Timing
Installation Artifacts are created in the Construction Phase and updated through the Transition Phase.
Responsibility
The Implementer implements the installation scripts and writes the installation instructions.
Tailoring
Installation artifacts are needed if installation programs will be used to configure the system in the deployment environment. If the software is deployed only once (as is the case with many systems built by a company for internal use on a corporate server), installation artifacts may be omitted.
Additional Information
In a system where the end user is expected to install the product, the Installation Instructions can be included in the user’s guide. For a more complicated installation where qualified service staff are needed, there needs to be a separate installation description.
