Description

This workflow detail is focused on:

  • Ensuring that artifacts and their associated baselines are available.
  • Determining if required artifacts are stored in a controlled library and baselined.
  • Supporting project Configuration Status Accounting activities.
  • Facilitating reporting of change request information, especially the activities related to work performed against defect and enhancement requests.
  • Ensuring that data is “rolled-up” and reported for the purposes of tracking progress and trends.

Timing

This work is applicable throughout the project lifecycle, beginning as early as the Inception phase.

Optionality

This work is not considered optional, although project culture will mean this work will vary from low-ceremony to a high-ceremony undertaking, and will increase in complexity the larger or more distributed the project team becomes.

How to Staff

The person playing the Configuration Manager role in accordance with the Configuration Management Plan needs to provide quantitative reports that can be used to assess the project status.
