Workflow Detail: Produce Deployment Unit

Description

The purpose of this workflow detail is to:

• Create a deployment unit that consists of the software, and the necessary accompanying artifacts required to effectively install and use it.
• The deployment unit can be created for the purposes of beta testing a test deployment to the final users or, depending on it level of maturity, for the final product.

Timing

This work is primarily performed in the Construction and Transition phases, although it may start in the Elaboration phase especially where aspects of the deployment of the product are determined to involve significant architectural risk. This work typically begins mid-way through the iteration and may be repeated several times during the remainder of the iteration.

Optionality

This work is not considered optional, although it will differ in format, style and level of ceremony to suit the project context.

How to Staff

This workflow detail relies on the skill set of described roles to create the product,  installation scripts, and associated user support material, in a form that can be effectively delivered to the end users.
